For my DCG class (designing computer graphics)
at Full Sail University, we were given the task to redesign some pretty bad logos.
We were able to choose from the London 2012 Olympics, Detroit Zoo, or the Orlando International Airport.
I chose the Detroit Zoo and decided on a childish playful approach to the logo redesign because the general zoo visitors are families with children. I created a very simple vector design with the use of some more popular zoo animals faces.
In the original project, we created them in black and white. As another part of the assignment, we had to create an icon set to go with our new logo. I chose more simplified animal faces that would match the logo. These icons could be used throughout the zoo as directional signs to different animal habitats, and could also be used on numerous marketing pieces for the zoo.
In my Critique Structures, I was given the task to re-vamp a project that we’ve done during our studies here at Full Sail or our own personal projects. I was given the task to redesign my redesign of the zoo logos. I decided to colorize them and place them in different environmental situations to get a feel of what they’d look like in use, like on a billboard, a promotion flyer, or bumper sticker. I also created zoo admission tickets, which I am very happy with. I placed the logo on the ticket and then used my different icons as the main image on the ticket, and then on the back of the ticket, I put a little trivia fact about that particular animal. I created them as if they become collector items for repeat visitors to the zoo.
